About the Role
As an Associate Professor (Academic) you will contribute to the University's determination to pursue `digital leadership' in a global tertiary market. You will exercise leadership and expertise in applying and communicating the principles, methods, and tools at the basis of digital research, including the development of individual and collaborative research projects that involve digital forms of analysis and publication.
The Faculty's strategic goal is to establish a research environment and teaching program with acknowledged strengths in digitally-enabled activities. In the first instance this will involve the development of innovative spaces and practices to accelerate digitally enabled research and education in the area of `Historical Studies' (History, Ancient History and Archaeology). Ultimately it will also encompass the implementation of flagship digital humanities projects that attract new students and researchers to the UNE.
Specific responsibilities of this role includes developing a research and teaching program in the digital humanities based on a proven and practical knowledge of the ways in which digital methods and technologies are transforming the study of history and related disciplines. You will teach into both the Bachelor of Historical Inquiry and Practice and the Bachelor of Arts, developing digital humanities subjects that forge research and teaching synergies in the School of HASS that contributes to the training of High Degree Research students who rely on these methods. The preferred applicant will also have the opportunity to develop and teach units in his/her field of historical research.
Skills and Experience
We are seeking someone with expertise in the field of digital history and an established program of quality research and a record of high quality research outputs at national and international level. Evidence of leadership across all academic activities, including teaching, research and service is essential, along with a successful record of applying for, obtaining and managing external competitive research funding.
